Acceptance

Acceptance is always the answer

“And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation – some fact of my life unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life’s terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and my attitudes.” – The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous

Bliss Menu: A Simple Mood Booster

Bliss

I first heard about the bliss menu technique from Kate Northrup a few years ago. A bliss menu is a list of things we love to do. It can be a great tool to use to change our mood when we’re having a bad day. Is there something on our bliss menu we can do to lift our spirits? If not, can we plan something? Sometimes even just thinking about those things can have a positive impact, especially when it evokes uplifting memories.

Understanding the Mind-Body-Spirit Connection is vitally important when we are trying to take care of our general wellbeing. Our mind deals with thoughts, feelings and beliefs and what goes on in our mind can affect how our body feels. How we treat our body, such as our eating habits, exercise, and sleep, can impact our mental and spiritual states. And our spirit is like our inner essence, linked to our consciousness.  Taking care of our health means building a strong mind-body-spirit connection and to do that, means nurturing all three parts.

Understanding that these three things are connected, enables us to look at our health in a complete or holistic way, deepening our understanding of ourselves and our needs. Instead of concentrating on just one aspect, we are able to consider how our mind and spirit can affect our body and vice versa.  For example, I know that when I take the dog out for a walk in the woods or by the sea, I’m doing for his health and happiness of course, but mine too.  And I’m doing it as much as for my body as my mind.

I also know that from time to time, I get a soreness in my neck, and it almost always coincides with when I’m stressed or when I have things on my mind. I also know that when I am feeling relaxed and at ease, its much easier for me to be compassionate, understanding and more grateful.
