Feel Terrific

I want to share my top tips to feel terrific in the hope that it will either give you some ideas or inspire you to come up with your own. I love a hack to help me fast track my way to Happiness. My top tips for feeling good are:

Ask “what can I do to bring 5% more joy into my life?”

Ask yourself “What can I do to bring 5% more joy into my life?” I have been inspired to do this by my coach and mentor Jason Goldberg. I must admit, when I first read it, I was sceptical, but I asked myself the question and I thought “5% isn’t much, how hard can it be?”

I felt moved to play an upbeat song from my Music for Manifesting or Party playlist every morning. I play it either in the shower or in the car on the way to work and sing and dance along. Again, I was skeptical. I have tried this before and it didn’t always work, but for some reason, this time it did. If I’m not in the mood, I make a pact with myself to just play one song and almost every time I end up playing a few. It always lifts my spirits and sets me up for the day.

Have a cold shower

I first heard of the cold shower idea from Tony Robbins and more recently, Iceman, Wim Hof. I absolutely love the feeling of the cold water hitting my skin. It is so invigorating.

My tips for enjoying a cold shower are:

  • Shower as usual.
  • At the end of the shower, turn the shower on to the hottest setting you can bear for a few seconds.
  • Then switch it to cold. Keep making it colder, until it is as cold as you can bear. Do that for as long as you can. Start with a few seconds and increase up to two minutes. Wim Hof says that once you’ve achieved this, you can move on to ice baths. I can quite easily cope with two minutes in a reasonably cold shower. I am not ready for an ice bath, and to be honest, I’m not sure I ever will be. Never say never though! If it is a particularly cold day, I make sure the heating is on nice and high and/or finish with another blast of hot water, although I rarely find that is necessary.

Get outside

I love getting out by the sea or in nature. As soon as I am by the sea, I can feel a sense of serenity come over me. If I can exercise by the sea or in nature, so much the better. Sometimes just walking outside of my house or office and being in the fresh air for even five minutes is enough to lift my spirits.

Spend time with friends and family

It is important to connect with people or even a pet. I have two friends who I love spending time with. Unfortunately, they both live in other countries, but we see each other as much as we can. We also talk regularly on WhatsApp or video call. When I have spent time with them, I come away feeling as though my soul has been nourished. I have other friends, more local that I love socialising with because they are fun and we always laugh together.

Spend time alone

Is it a paradox that spending time alone is equally important and nourishing as spending time with friends and family? I aim to spend at least five minutes every day, with my phone switched off, doing absolutely nothing, except drink a coffee and cuddle the cats. I usually do this first thing in the morning, I also meditate most days and/or go for a walk in silence. I regularly have times where I have the house to myself. I turn off the phone, TV, computer etc. In these times I meditate, sit in the garden, cuddle the cats, do colouring or art, have a bath and more. I believe spending time alone and being comfortable in our own company is one of the biggest keys to Happiness. I talk about this in my blog posts Silent Retreat and Overcoming Loneliness.
