Sometimes we all have off days and it’s important to give yourself a break. I had a bad day on Saturday. As you may know I’m in training to run a half marathon in September. I was planning to go to the local park run on Saturday but a few things went wrong and I couldn’t make it.
I woke up at around 6 am so I had plenty of time. Unfortunately, that gave me a false sense of having more time than I thought. I ended up rushing at the last minute! Also, I suddenly had mild sickness and diarrhoea, which led to three last minute trips to the bathroom. I was determined to get to the park run though and I thought I could probably still just about make it. The next thing to go wrong was that I couldn’t find my trainers. Mr Sexy Pants had borrowed them earlier to take out the rubbish and he’d gone off to his Scout’s event still wearing them. I had a bit of PMT and I lost my temper. There was no way I could make it on time. I burst into tears and went back to bed.
I only slept for about thirty minutes. When I woke up, I was determined to still go for a run. I needed a new pair of trainers anyway. I decided to buy a new pair from Sports Direct and then go for a run on the heath.
When I arrived at Sports Direct I felt hot and bothered. I reached for my handbag and realised I’d left it at home. Once again, I burst into tears and drove home crying. I was determined to remain positive though, not give up and still make it out for a run. Then I had a lightbulb moment.
“Do you know what? I AM going to give up. Just for today. Just for today I’m going to give up and give myself a break. I’ll go out for a run tomorrow.” And I did. I gave myself a break and I went for a run on Sunday.
I was tight for time on Sunday but I was determined to go for a run anyway. Our homework was to do one hour and 10 minutes. Due to time constraints I was only able to make it for 50 minutes. The important thing is that I went for a run anyway.
Can you relate to this? What are you giving yourself a hard time about? Do you need to give yourself a break? Please comment below.
